Wm. Randy Wood

About Us
In 1981 Mr. Wood began conducting “Lip Sync” contests held in Seattle area nightclubs. These contests involved ordinary people competing head to head lip-syncing the words by popular recording artists recreating in spectacular fashion the make-up, the hairstyles, the costumes… every movement and every gesture of their favorite performers. Just imagine, seeing look-a-like recreations of your favorite artist or group in concert on your stage. http://www.youtube.com/puttinonthehits
In late 1982 the contests became so popular among club owners Mr. Wood incorporated Lip Sinc International and developed a licensing program so clubs nationwide could participate conducting their own local search. This licensing program was unique in that the contest ran for eight-week consecutive weeks renewable at the same terms and conditions. The club owners had such great financial success with this format they renewed their license several times returning many times their initial investment in the program.
Mr. Wood continued to refine the contest format and further developed the concept as an entertainment form of mass appeal with contestants, sponsors, and the media. “Lip-syncing” as it came to be popularly known, became a national sensation, receiving considerable attention from dozens of local television stations around the country. Lip Sync International’s Lip Sync performers appeared nationally on numerous occasions on such shows as “PM Magazine”, “Solid Gold”, “The Dance Show”, “Entertainment Tonight” and internationally on the television show “Entertainment USA” on the BBC in Europe and on CTV in Canada. Likewise, news accounts and feature articles about the contests appeared in numerous publications around the country. By the spring of 1984 Mr. Wood had licensed over 1500 preliminary contests in 30 cities, and two National Finals.
In April 1984 Mr. Wood joined forces with dick clark productions stepping into the position of consulting producer for a new television series Puttin on the Hits based on the lip-sync contest format he had created and used in clubs nationwide. With the new show airing in September Mr. Wood immediately began converting his contests around the country to official auditions for Puttin' on the Hits providing a continuous flow of eager contestants for the series. Grand Final winners from club auditions in over fifty cities across America were given a chance in Hollywood to compete for the $25,000 Grand Prize. The series aired from September 1984 to 1988 in 26 countries, and was nominated twice for the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Over the last few years music reality and talent shows have become extremely popular among young and old alike such as “American Idol” , ”America’s Got Talent ”, ”Nashville Star”, MTV’s StarMaker, and others. In 2007 the hit television show, “The Next Best Thing” featured singing celebrity look-alikes who competed head to head sporting full costume, make-up, and hairstyles for a chance at $100,000 in cash. The look-a-like Las Vegas show “Legends in Concert” has become so popular it has expanded nationally, the latest show hosted at Dick Clark’s new dinner theater in Bronson Missouri. And let’s not forget all the Karaoke contests around the country, all these feature want to be stars who sing, but what about the majority of us that can’t sing? The all new America’s Lip Sync National Search™ gives ordinary people the chance to step into the spotlight and be the star they always wanted to be, and maybe even be discovered on national television.

The All New Puttin' on the Hits TV Series

The All New
Puttin’ on the Hits

A one hour music reality television series
“The show that makes you the star you always wanted to be”
Created By William Wood

Logline:
(“Is it Live or is it Lip Sync”) Contestants from all across the country represent their city and compete head to head by singing, (Karaoke) performing and recreating live the sounds, looks, and moves of a popular artist or music group in search of being “the star they always wanted to be”.

Premise:
Puttin’ on the Hits is a one hour music reality television series pitting look-a-like performers against each other from all over the country. These contestants compete in a “Battle of the Bands” format, singing, performing, and puttin’ on the hits from yesterday and today, creating the illusion that they are that artist or group performing in concert.

Location:
Preliminary contests on the grass roots level are being held at karaoke clubs, malls and other venues in various cities with the grand final winners from these venues advancing to the next higher level (city finals) of competition. Show producers will be on hand (at these contests/auditions) to tape the city final contests as show segments that will include up close and personal interviews. These city final contest winners will earn the right to be flown to Los Angeles and compete on a Hollywood sound stage for a chance to win $100,000.00 in cash and other prizes.

Interactive:
Interactive elements will include text messaging, call-in, and Internet voting during the live elimination process and a website with information about the show, how venues can participate, and links to sponsors and merchandizing.

Audience:
Puttin’ on the Hits has proven to appeal to the 18 to 49 year old demographic as well with kids who can identify with these contestants. Viewers become well acquainted with the contestants as a result of the extensive biography segments, endearing family interviews and highly entertaining concert like tapings. The audience soon gets to know a lot about the personal lives of each the contestants, their families, the venue they represent. They get a real sense of what’s on the line for these contestants. The format allows viewers to form an involved, personal connection to the contestants and assures greater viewership than other, less personal reality talent shows.

Audience participation is constant and dynamic at home viewers are able to vote each week for their favorite contestants keeping them glued to their television sets. The studio audience can’t help but get caught up in the excitement and enjoy seeing recreations of famous recording artists performing in a concert like atmosphere.

Segments:
Puttin’ on the Hits is a 13-week reality series airing once each week after American Idol. The opportunity exists for a two hour special and a weekly feature in each episode where the audience must decide “Is it Live or Is it Lip Sync”.

The series begins week one with a taped episode of 6 winners (or group) from 6 city final competitions, continuing for the first 10 episodes. Live performances, voting, and elimination of 5 winners each week narrows the field to 10 winners for episode ten, leaving 5 remaining winners to compete in episode eleven, and 5 winners competing in episode twelve. Each of these segments calls for elimination of four of the five winners. The thirteenth Grand Final episode highlights the final 2 winners performing their two best performances with judges, the final vote and declaration of the winning group. Puttin’ on the Hits is “the show that makes you the star you always wanted to be”.

Special Note: These contest are currently be conducted all over the US however a large number are be conducted right here in Southern California. This national contact has already been contacted to participate. The on going in-market promotions is one of the keys to high ratings for this series. I will show you how it works.
